Parish Church of St Luke - Holmes Chapel

The vacancy at St Luke’s  - an update from the Wardens: March 2019

We are now in a position to advertise for our new Vicar.  The PCC have compiled a Parish Profile which gives potential applicants information about St Luke’s, our congregation and Holmes Chapel.  The Parish Profile also outlines the opportunities and challenges for the next incumbent.

We received a good response to the question about what type of Vicar you would like to see at St Luke’s. Your replies mainly followed the theme of somebody supportive, a leader and teacher and someone who has experience of life.  You asked for somebody who would listen and could work with both the established congregation and attract new members to the church.  Your feedback was that you were happy to have a man or woman in the role.

The PCC agreed the Parish Profile early in February and this was forwarded to the Diocese for advertising nationally in The Church Times.  After the closing date we will draw up a short list of candidates to interview.  The interviews will be conducted by our Archdeacon, Ian Bishop, our Patron, Thomas Shepherd, the Rural Dean, Steve Clapham and Churchwardens, Alastair and Jayne, as the parish representatives.

Following the interviews there may be a period of notice which our new Vicar will need to serve and this will typically be 3 months.  We are hoping to have a new incumbent by September.

Revd Rick Gates will continue to conduct the majority of Sunday services this month and Wednesday Communion will be taken by Revd Howard Eales, Revd Martin Oram or Revd Alan Overend.  We are pleased to welcome local clergy to St Luke’s during the Interregnum for the diversity and refreshing challenge they bring.  Morning Prayer continues to be led by Anne Smith, Jane Thomson and Tim Fryer.

Paul has moved out of the Vicarage and the property is being monitored and maintained by the Wardens along with an expert team from the diocese.

If you have any feedback during the Interregnum, please do contact the Wardens; Alastair on tel. 534844 or Jayne on tel. 532516.  We are making good progress in our search for a new Vicar and have received much support from the congregation which is very welcome.
